My Homework Page
This is where I am putting up most of my assignments for the
single subject teaching credential program I am attending at
CSUS. This is mostly here for the benefit of my fellow
students should they need it, and to make
it
easier to discuss material with teachers, friends, family or
whoever. If there are any assignments in here of general interest
I linked to them in my musings
section.
Anyway, I have space on my web
server, so why the hell not?
Assignments
As I start completing

EDTE 371C Schools and Community II
Stuff having to do with classroom management and stuff.
- Classroom
Management Plan - How I'm going to run my class.
- Reflection - A reflection on my management plan, how it relates to my own thoughts on education, and how it might change in the future.
EDTE 384 Academic Literacy for Secondary Teachers
My expository reading and writing assignment:
Some logs I have to do on some academic literacy readings.
Very dull.
- Log 1 - Teaching Reading in
Mathematics and Science
- Log 2 - Helping Struggling
Students Achieve Success
- Log 3 - Many Americans Can
Read But Can't Comprehend
- Log 4 - Reading, Writing and
Understanding
- Log 5 - Reading Supports for
All
- Log 6 - Integrating Literacy
with Content
- Log 7 - Breaking Through The
Literacy Ceiling
- Log 8 - Critical Literacy as
Comprehension
Semester 1
EDTE 116 - Psychology of
Instruction
These are just some odds and ends for class - not much worth seeing
really.
EDBM 170 - Introduction to The
Education of English Learners
These logs are from the
tutoring sessions that I had with a couple of English as a Second
Language (ESL) students at one of our local elementary
schools. The logs stand by themselves pretty well, so if you
know me and you're wondering what it's like for a 42 year old engineer
to try to connect with elementary school kids for the first time ever,
you might enjoy reading them.
The prepsheets below are
reactions to our assigned readings. They're supposed to be
short but I often go overboard. My professor told
his wife that one of his students writes an extended critique of every
reading
(yep, that's me). They aren't very
entertaining if you haven't read the material, so everyone but my
classmates will want
to skip them.
Odds and ends.
EDTE 371A - Schools and
Community I
These are reasonably stand alone but maybe a touch clinical.
Have a look if you are really curious about Elk Grove area high
schools. Each observation focuses on a particular aspect of class
as well as taking place at a different classroom.
EDTE 372 - Anthropology and Education
The focus of this class was ethnographic studies of the Elk Grove
school district.
- Ethnography - My
personal ethnographic study of a middle school pre-algebra class.
- Group Project - [Warning - HUGE File] A powerpoint
presentation on the Edward Harris Jr. Middle School and its community.
HLSC 136 - School Health
Education
I had to crank out a ton of stuff for this class. I put a lot of
work into the first two, the rest are pretty short.
Useful links
Here are some links that are
useful to me at school. A lot of them aren't really accessible if
you
are not a CSUS student, but I put them here anyway for the convenience
of
myself and my fellow students.
- CSUS Site
- This is the main campus website.
- WebCT
- WebCT is used by a lot of the professors to construct websites
associated with particular courses. The courses I'm attending
include the following (if you don't have access to WebCT, you probably
won't be able to access the sites below).
- EDTE
372 - Anthropology and Education
(Porfirio Loeza).
- HS
136 - School Health Education -
Section 7 (John Tamblyn)
- Taskstream
- This is a web based tool for doing teacher type stuff. I had a
whole class largely devoted to learning to use this tool, but I would
have to say that was way overkill.
